Kazakhstan is the largest of the Central Asian states. It has borders with Russia, China, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan. It is the world's largest landlocked and ninth biggest country by size, it is more than the size of the other Central Asian states combined. Kazakhstan is the richest country in Central Asia, due to its large oil and natural gas reserves. The country inherited the culture of the ancient Silk Road, Nomadic lifestyle and the Soviet Union which has a great influence in its formation. According to its Constitution, Kazakhstan is a secular state. Nevertheless most of its population is Muslim 70 %, 26 % Christian etc. Almaty is the largest city and capital prior to December 1998. It is located near the snowcapped Zailiyskiy Alatau what allows local resident to enjoy its nature and ski slopes. There are many glitzy shopping malls, Western-style coffee lounges, expensive restaurants, new ski resorts and nightclubs to help enjoy life to the full.
