Early morning transfer to Aral Sea lake shore with sightseeing and photo stops en-route. Stop in Kungrad for free lunch (280 km).
Drive via Ustyurt Plateau to the Asral Sea. Visit on the way Sudochie Lake. The rich fauna of this lake is famous far beyond Karakalpakstan. Many scientists and fishing and hunting enthusiasts come to this place from all over the world. The lake is a fundamental stop on the long migration path of birds: the pink flamingo, the white swans, the duck and others and visit former Soviet gulag ‘Urga’.
The Aral Sea is the former fourth largest lake in the world bordering on Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. In 1960-s the construction of melioration canals for cotton irrigation from the Amu Darya River began, the Aral Sea began to shallow. The area of the Aral Sea is rapidly decreasing, towns and villages that once the seaports are now far away from the present sea line. Photo stop in Ustyurt Plateau to enjoy unusual landscapes. Arrival in the yurt camp, located at the shores of Aral Sea. While dinner is cooked over an open fire, travelers can enjoy hiking, relaxing at the camp, exploring the milky way in the clear sky. Dinner (included) and overnight in a yurt camp.
Camp-style breakfast. Early morning drive to former fishermen’s town Muynaq (390 km, 6 h.), which used to be situated on the shores of the Aral Sea. In Muynak have a look at a former port with abandoned ships in the sand – “Cemetery of ships”. Then visit Muynak History Museum with art exhibits of the Aral Sea history, about the Aral sea disaster. Lunch in Moynaq (included). Drive to Nukus. On the way stop at legendary archaeological complex necropolis Mizdakhan on the way back to Nukus (about 20 km from Nukus), an ancient cemetery, and located next to the remains of the ancient fortress (4-3 Century BC). Arrival in Nukus. Free dinner. Overnight at the hotel.
In the morning visit principal sights in Nukus. Among the best things to do in Nukus is the Savitsky Art Museum where you can easily spent a couple of hours. The museum hosts the world’s second largest collection of Russian avant-garde art and exposition of Karakalpak applied arts items. Depart to Urgench (200 km, 4-5 h.). On the way visit archaeological monuments of ancient Khorezm: Toprakkala and Ayazkala dating back to the 3rd century A.D. lunch in yurt camp (included). Arrive in Urgench. Farewell Dinner with Khorezm folk dances (included) in open air restaurant with local red dry wine and Uzbek vodka. Overnight at the hotel.
