Fergana Valley is an intermountain basin in the upper course of the Syrdarya river, surrounded by the Pamir Alay and Tian Shan mountains. Only in the west the valley with a narrow 9 km corridor leaves the plain by Hunger and Dalverzin steppes.
The Fergana Valley stands out for its abundance and diversity of natural wealth, so people call it the Pearl of Uzbekistan. All necessary natural conditions for human life and development were found here since ancient times of farming. They are fertile soil, favorable climate and abundance of water resources. All this has greatly contributed to the emergence of a settled-farming culture from the most ancient ages. In antiquity Fergana formed an independent historical and cultural oasis of Central Asia, similar to Bactria, Sogd and Khorezm.
Itinéraire:
Transfer to Southern railway station of Tashkent. Train « Uzbekistan, » departs from Tashkent at 08:05 Arrival in Kokand at 12:09.
At Kokanda railway station meet your guide and driver. The beginning of the city tour. You will visit Hudoyar Khan Palace, Jami Mosque, Kamol Kazi madrasah and madrasah of Norbut Biy. The main attraction of Kokand – the pearl of the city is the palace of Khudoyar Khan, built under the leadership of the famous architect Mir Ubaidullo in 1871. The best craftsmen from the Fergana Valley took part in the construction and finishing of this building. Now it is also a museum of local history. Its artifacts will open for you new interesting facts about Uzbekistan history which will inspire you to learn more.
After lunch, a trip to Rishtan and a visit to the workshop of Rishtan ceramists. Next you will travel on to Fergana. Upon arrival in the city accommodation in the hotel. Free time, overnight stay in the hotel.
Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will continue to explore Fergana Valley. Sightseeing of Fergana followed by a trip to Margilan. This town is famous for artisans and the silk fabrics they produce: ikat, han atlas, bekasam. Visit silk fabric workshops. Excursion in Margilan: Chakar Mosque Complex, Said Ahmad Hoji madrasah (19 century).
The population of Margilan has long been engaged in the production of silk fabrics and this fact made the city famous not only in Uzbekistan but all over the world. Silk produced here is considered one of the best in the international market. Almost for 3 centuries – from 1598 till 1876 Margilan was a part of the Kokand Khanate. Fine local silk was exported to the countries of Europe and the East along the ancient tracks of the Great Silk Road. Evidence of this are actual silk textiles and fragments of silk clothes dating back to 6th and 7th centuries AD. These items were found by archeologists inside reed tomb caskets during excavations in Munchaktepa settlement.
At Yodgorlik factory you can get acquainted with all stages of Ikat and Khan Atlas production -the original manual method of work is preserved. There is a small shop on the territory of the fabric and if you wish you can buy here textiles or fabric by the meter. Keeping secrets of old technology the factory continues old gegeration traditions.
After this way back to Tashkent. Margilan – Tashkent train departs at 16:48. Arrival in Tashkent at 21:03. Transfer to hotel.
